Another puppet idea
Rod puppets made from
stiff cardboard or door skin, thin wood they sell to cover doors. They are easy
and delightful puppets that can take any shape. They are great for teaching
shapes and
telling shape poems.

1. Cut shapes from stiff cardboard or door skin (thin wood sold to cover doors).
2. Paint shape.
3. Attach a rod to shape for handle.
4. Paint eyes and nose or you can use the wiggly eyes or make holes and attach the large stuffed animal eyes.
5. To make a moving mouth attach a spiral key chain or a large rubber band where the mouth would be. Drill or punch two wholes on each side where the edge of the mouth is going to be attach the rubber band with fishing line..
6. Attach fishing line to bottom middle of the rubber band, or you can attach line a little off to the side if you want the character to smirk. Pull the string and the puppet will talk. Drill a hole beneath the mouth as extended and pull through to the other side. I usually attach a ribbon to this pull string so that it is easily located.
8. Teach kids how to pull the line by pulling in time with the syllables, a great reading and spelling skill.
